TBI Research Cardiff University

Well what an inspiring day we had last week! We met with Malik Zaben, Clinical Lecturer in Neurosurgery and Alice Sockett Legacies and In Memoriam Gifts Officer from Cardiff Uni. Malik is conducting research into Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and we were shown around the Hadyn Ellis £30m Building and next door - the CUBRIC £44m building. Wow! State of the art architecture and some very fancy pieces of equipment. We were shown the labs at Hadyn Ellis and met pHd students conducting research using stem cells. And next door, 'Housing a combination of neuroimaging equipment, UNIQUE WITHIN EUROPE, CUBRIC continues to further its world-leading research which has already established Cardiff University as one of the UK’s top three Universities for Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience.' Malik explained his passion for researching TBI and how we can improve outcomes. So exciting to find just the research we are looking to help fund - and right on the doorstep! Together with Rhiannon's link to Cardiff University, this was just meant to be. We hope to arrange funding over 3 years and this process will begin shortly - exciting! Oh - BTW - the Seahorse sits in the foyer of CUBRIC and is a pun - the latin name is hippocampus - this is also an area of the brain which is responsible mainly for memory!
